Frederick Family Dinner Series: Renzi's Wood Fired Pizza

By Amy Ghiglieri, Publisher, Macaroni Kid Frederick December 10, 2020

Dinner has become enemy #1 in my house. By the time we get through all the things we need to do in a day: household chores, work, virtual school, homeschool, breakfast and lunch, working out, you name it, I'm exhausted and I just don't feel like making dinner. When Friday rolls around, we're all spent so we've made it a tradition that we always get takeout for dinner to celebrate the end of the week. This past Friday, I surprised my family with Renzi's Wood Fired Pizza and it was a huge hit!

🍕 About Renzi's Pizza: Up until this year, Steve Renzi operated Renzi's Pizza as a mobile pizzeria at weekend events. Then, like everything else connected to events in 2020, a change had to be made. Events were being canceled, but the people still wanted their Renzi's Pizza. Steve purchased an old pizza shop and began operating Renzi's Pizza as both a mobile pizzeria and a restaurant with a physical location. Open for a few months now, Renzi's Pizza is growing into a hugely popular option for so many in the area. Steve grew up working at a pizza joint in New Haven, CT, and now he's made his dream of owning a pizza parlor a reality. His New England style pizza can't be beat!

🍕 The Food: We asked Renzi's to put together an array of items based on my family's food preferences and they did not disappoint! All of their entrees and appetizers are made fresh in-house. Here's what we tried:

  • Fried Mozzarella: You know the frozen sticks of mozzarella that most places serve? Not Renzi's. Made from fresh mozzarella slices (think pie style) and served with house made marinara sauce, they were the perfect start to our meal.

  • The Renzi Pizza: Covered in cheese, pepperoni and meatballs. It's one of their most popular items and it's easy to see one. You know how some places put too much sauce on their pizza, while others don't add enough? I'm happy to announce, Renzi's has the perfect cheese to sauce ratio.

  • Margherita Pizza: Some of the freshest tomatoes and basil we've ever had a on a pizza. Bursting with flavor. Even my kids liked it, which is saying something!
  • Kids' Meal Spaghetti and Meatballs: Pasta cooked just right, covered in sauce and housemade marinara sauce, available in a kids' size or as an entree, it's perfect for everyone. The meatballs are also available as a sub.
  • Kids' Meal Chicken and Tenders: Breaded and fried just right, the chicken tenders were gone in no time. The fries stayed fresh even with the way home. Not an easy feat with it comes to french fries!
  • Doughnuts: Fried dough balls with cinnamon & powdered sugar, served with a side of chocolate dipping sauce. The perfect thing to munch on during Friday's family game night once dinner was over.

🍕 The Service: Masks are required while walking through the restaurant and Renzi's employees all wear masks. Our food was ready and waiting at the exact time it was supposed to be. They did a great job packaging it so that everything was still warm when we arrived home. The employees were friendly and eager to make sure our order was correct.

🍕 Final Verdict: Renzi's Wood Fired Pizza for the win! At the end of the night everyone in my family commented on what a fantastic meal we had. We will be back and recommend everyone check out Renzi's Pizza. With the cold winter nights ahead, it's the perfect time to order pizza, stay in and plan a family night. If you're looking for local gift ideas, a gift card to Renzi's would make a great present.
