Remote learning, homeschool, working from home with kids and cars not running have made for some challenging days lately for my family. The last thing anyone wants to think about after a tough week is making dinner. Amiright? We have been testing out some local restaurants in our Frederick Family Dinner Series to determine which ones make the cut for providing families with a quick, delicious, family-friendly meal. This week, we want to brag on Wok In | Wok Out and 8tea8. We ordered take out on Friday night for the purpose of featuring Wok In | Wok Out and 8tea8 in our Frederick Family Dinner series and based on the week we had, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
Located at 211 Shorebird Street in Frederick (plaza near OneLife Fitness and HomeGoods), you might think that Wok In | Wok Out is just another franchise, but you’re wrong! It is locally owned and operated by two people who fell in love with Frederick. With plenty of open spacing between tables, they make dining in or out super simple and safe. We placed our order in advance for pickup.
Upon arriving to pickup our meal, Josh, one of the owners and chefs helped us decide upon some tea from their Boba Tea Shop 8tea8 (located inside Wok In | Wok Out). I had the Taro Milk Tea and it was amazing. Bursting with flavor and just the right amount of sweet. My kids had the honey tea (decaf) with fruit syrup and boba pearls. 8tea8 makes their syrups with real fruit, you can notice the difference in taste right away. We toasted to the weekend and headed home with our food.
Everything came well packed for the car ride home and included ample amounts of sauce. For appetizers we ordered the Wok n Roll and Wok Katsu. The Wok n Roll was my favorite with avocado, tofu, fresh veggies and herbs all wrapped in rice paper and served with a side of peanut sauce. For our main meal we ordered: Curry Fried Rice with Beef, Asian Steak & Potatoes, Kids' Nom Nom Sliders and Wok Your Style: Vietnamese Lemongrass Curry with tofu and broccoli. I love that everything at Wok In | Wok Out can be customized based on each individual’s taste preference.
As a mom, here are the things I love most about Wok In | Wok Out and 8tea8:
- First, they use fresh veggies, grilled meats and their sauces are homemade. The quality really elevates their menu to a higher level.
- There is a huge variety in their menu, which means that everyone in my family will find something they like and want.
- Asian food is one of my favorite comfort foods, but I don’t always love how I feel afterwards. Not the case with Wok In | Wok Out - they are well known for providing fast service meals without the excessive use of oil, sugar, salt or MSG.
- The variety in their teas - so many try!
These are the reasons my children loved Wok In | Wok Out and 8tea8:
- Their kids' menu is sizable, so they have plenty of choices when it comes to what they're going to eat. The adult menu is plenty big enough for sharing too if they want to try something off of there instead.
- ‘The food tastes amazing and the 8tea8 drinks are the best things we’ve ever had.’ Their words, not mine.
Focusing on a fusion of flavors from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea and India with a delicious modern twist, Wok In | Wok Out and 8tea8 needs to be on your family’s list of places to check out. You’re going to love the flavor explosion and generous portion sizes. We will be back soon - I’ve already got a craving for another Taro Milk Tea.
