Summer is here and we have a schedule packed with fun. There’s vacation, swim team, pool days, late nights and so on. My kids are all at sweet ages right now where we are done with diapers, but not so old yet to refuse to hang with mom in public. I want to take full advantage of this time because I know the day is coming all too soon where they won’t be spending their summer days with mom.
However, there is a slight problem that occurs during the summer. I am a work from home mom with no childcare and while I would love to just kick back and have a non-working, carefree summer vacation for three months, it’s not in the cards. I have to strategically plan our days to find a balance of fun and work.
My three kids range in age from three to nine. Each day I get up early before them to work like a fiend and then do it again in the afternoon hours during their quiet time. Every day when I am working in the afternoon, they ask for TV time. Lately I have been struggling for an answer. It’s not that I’m against allowing them to watch a bit of TV each day, my only rule is it has to be educational. The problem is though the non-educational shows really entice them and each time I skip past them while getting to an educational show, there’s always a whine from someone about why they can’t pick out their own shows. One time I threatened to turn the TV off if the whining didn’t stop. Unfortunately, they ignored my threat and I had to make good on it. I suffered the most from the punishment that day.
This week my family, along with other Macaroni Kid publishers, have been reviewing the brand new unlimited streaming service, Kidstream. The programming offered by Kidstream is award-winning, educational and commercial free.
My favorite feature is that they have shows for all ages, from preschoolers to big kids. Now when my kids ask to watch TV, they know the deal. Go straight to Kidstream and pick out whatever you want. Kidstream features a variety of hit series that my kids love. My three and five year olds are kid binging on Lazy Town and The Hive. My nine year old is learning so much watching Science Max and Bushwacked.
I love having the peace of mind Kidstream offers by giving me the freedom to let my kids choose what they want to watch. When they are using Kidstream, I know I don’t have to worry about what they are watching and can instead focus on getting my work done for the day. Their TV time is now the most peaceful hour of my day and I get so much accomplished by not being on edge, waiting for the fight over what shows they are allowed to watch.
Whatever your kiddos are into, Kidstream has it: adventure, sports, animals, dancing and much more! Kidstream has been a huge help in my work from home mom life and I’m pretty sure it will be the sole reason I am actually productive this summer.
Kidstream is available through cable systems (Xfinity and Cox), Amazon Prime Video and Roku for $4.99/month. Want to try it out first for free? Macaroni Kid readers can use the code TryKidstream for a one-month FREE trial on Roku or a seven day FREE trial on Amazon. Trust me, it’s the peace you need and the independence they want to make their own choices all rolled into one. To find out more, click here.
