Safer Fun in the Sun with OneLife Fitness Swimming Lessons

By by Nichole Dowlearn May 15, 2019

Summer is a time for water balloons, sprinklers, the beach, and the pool. I love the fact that my kids will be outside soaking up sunshine and getting exercise. But with the water comes risk and my anxious mind can’t ignore that.

That’s why I’ve had both my kids in the pool getting lessons from babyhood. My eldest was a fish and swam independently at two. He adores the water. But my youngest has always been a land lover. He doesn’t even like getting his hair washed—an even bigger reason to get him in the water as much as possible.

I want him to be safe around the water so he can fish with his dad and splash with his brother in the pool. There are so many great memories waiting for him and I can’t risk him panicking in the water or falling in and not knowing how to get out.

So, we signed him up for swim lessons at One Life Fitness of North Frederick. The teacher was patient and warm and met him where he was at. I was able to get in the water with him, which helped calm his fears. They had toys and water noodles and games to engage him in play in order to keep the learning fun. By the end of the class he was splashing and smiling. The best part was that it was a way to spend quality time together without phones and televisions. I know this summer is going to look so much different than last simply because of these lessons.

We are looking forward to our next lesson and more preparation for summer family fun! From one mom to another, wouldn't you love for pool days to be fun rather than stressful? Swimming lessons are life-saving investment that nobody regrets spending money on.
