Family Swim for the Win

By by Nichole Dowlearn June 23, 2019

It was a warm Sunday afternoon and we were looking for a way to tire out the kids, spend time together, and play together without it costing an arm and a leg. I had been looking into swimming lessons for my youngest, and I remembered that the Aquatics Director had mentioned that OneLife Fitness of North Frederick has Open Family Swim on Sundays from 12-5PM.

We threw our suits on under our clothes and headed to the gym. The family changing room is so convenient when you have younger kids. It keeps them corralled while you change, bathrooms and showers are easy to access, and there is a swimsuit spinner—a huge hit with my three year old!

There were already a few families splashing and playing in the water and there were lessons going on, but the pool was not crowded at all. My oldest did summersaults underwater and raced us back and forth.  The youngest (who is still not sure he likes water) played with some water toys and clung to my husband for dear life for much of the time we were there. The water was nice and cool and not overly chlorinated. A lifeguard watched over everything the whole time (which was nice for some extra peace of mind).

As for us adults, it was great to be active with our children, rather than watching them play video games or watch TV. Afterwards, we were all able to shower and get dressed quickly and easily before heading into town for our favorite hamburgers.  Swimming makes you hungry right?! The best part of it is, if your kids are already on your membership it is a really good deal—so we went ahead and added extra fries and wings. Swimming burns calories right?  Talk about Sunday Fun day!
