Description
Humankind is the only animal on the planet which needs tools to survive. How did this happen? See for yourself with evolutionary anthropologist Mason Hintermeister, as he makes replicas of some of the most enduring forms of technology on the planet: stone tools. Learn about our earliest ancestors, the tools they left behind, and how studying them has changed the way we think about what it means to be human. Bring a lawn chair and join this outdoor conversation and stone tool demonstration happening on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. in Watkins Park, 615 Center St. Open to all ages.* *as long as they can be trusted to stay behind a perimeter and not pick up sharp objects. Mason Hintermeister (He/Him) is PhD student at Johns Hopkins University and originally from Mount Airy. He studied Human Evolutionary Biology and Anthropology at Stony Brook University. As an undergraduate, he researched the evolution of east African primates in the Functional Morphology Lab. He was also an intern with the Sharks and Artificial Intelligence Professional Development Program of University of Florida's Thompson Earth Systems Institute. And previously volunteered with the Calvert Marine Museum as a fossil hunter.
